Dr. K Rajagopal took over as Vice- Chancellor of Sri Krishnadevaraya University on 23rd June, 2015. Previously he was Vice chancellor for the JNT University, was also holding Chairmanship for South Central Regional committee (SCRC) of AICTE and also member of Executive committee of AICTE.
Dr. K Rajagopal was born on 2 February 1953 in Ananthapuram. He completed his primary studies in Keshavaiah Municipal School in Sainagar of Ananthapur and secondary education in Sri Sai Baba National Higher Secondary School up to 12th class. Having obtained his B.Tech (1971-1976) and M. Tech (1976-1978) degrees and in mechanical Engineering from JNTU College of Engineering, Ananthapuram, he has chosen the teaching career as he possess an open sense of passion towards academics and has become part of this noble profession by joining in lecturer position and elevated to professor at JNTU College of Engineering, Ananthapuram. He received Doctorate from IIT Madras (1987-1990) in the field of IC Engines under the supervision of renowned professor V Ganesan.
He has about 285 scholarly Publications and presentations to his credit at national and international level. Two of his papers received best paper awards for (1) “Feasibility of Three Dimensional Computations to Predict In-Cylinder Flow Fields” presented at International conference on Intelligent flexible autonomous manufacturing systems towards rapid design exploration and optimization (IFAMS) during 10th to 12th, Jan, 2000, and (2)”Robot path generation to overcome obstacles in automated working environment”, Second AP Science Congress, organized by Institute of Engineers and SV University, Tirupathi, Nov 14-16, 2009. He has guided about 35 Ph. D students, 70 M. Tech. Students. He held various Important positions like officer- in-charge of Examinations, Work shop and transport, Head of the Mechanical department, Vice – Principal and Principal at JNTU College of Engg., Ananthapuram. He is entrusted with the coveted position Vice Chancellor for JNTU in 2005. He was also Incharge Vice-Chancellor for Osmania University, Hyderabad and P.S.Telugu University, Hyderabad and Vice- Chancellor of S. V. University, Tirupathi, Yogi Vemana University, Kadapa for some period.
Dr Rajagopal has served on various bodies and committees such as Chairman of Indian Society for Technical Education, A.P. Section, INDIA,. Chairman for EAMCET and ECET(FDH) and PACET from 2005, 2006,2007,2008., Chairman & Member of Accreditation Committees of NBA., Vice-Chairman of the Society for Networking for Excellence in Technical Education (SONET), Vice-Chairman of the Indian Institute of Metals, Hyderabad Chapter, Member, Executive Council of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Member of State Level Steering Committee of Hydrology Project, Govt. of A.P., Member of High Power Committee of A.P.Housing Board, Hyderabad, Member, Board of Governors, National Institute of Technical Teachers Training Institute, Chennai.,Member, Board of Governors, Telugu Academy, Hyderabad, Member of Governing Council of Engineering Staff College of India, Member of the Committee to ensure Fair and Transparent conduct of Common Entrance Test by Association of Private colleges, Member of Governing Council of “International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT), Chairman, Anantapur Engineering College Alumni Association, Hon. Adviser to The Global Institutes, Calcutta, Member of central institute for rural electrification, Life Member of India Society for Technical Education (I S T E), Life Member Combustion Institute. chairman and Member of various Expert Committees of AICTE Holds Chartered Engineer (INDIA) Certificate, Member of Institutional of Engineers, Chairman and Member of Selection Committees and member of Board of Studies for various Universities and Member of different Advisory Committees of the Institute, Chaired many sessions at National & International Conferences. He received numerous honors and awards in his career. He has been awarded ‘Best Teacher’ for the year 2004 by the Govt. of A.P., He is elected as Fellow of Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences, Hyderabad 2008. Rayalaseema Rathna award by Rayalaseema Arts Theatre, Swami Vivekananda Award by Indian Institute of Oriental Heritage, Kolkata, Excellent Administrator award by Indian American Friendship Council (IAFC) Texas State Chapter, USA, April 2007, Certificate of appreciation by The University of New Orleans, USA, March 12, 2008. Anantha Animuthyam awarded by Sahithi Gagan Mahal Trust ,Ananthapuram are some of them. He is felicitated by the Institution of Engineers (India) Andhra Pradesh State Center In appreciation of the distinguished services rendered as vice chancellor of JNTU. He enjoyed the privilege of visiting several universities in Italy, Germany, France, Ukraine, Thailand, South Korea , U.S.A., Russia, Singapore, Malaysia and U.K. and became instrumental in making collaborations with them.
