Year of Establishment : 1968

Brief History of the Department :
Since its inception, the Department has reflected in its curriculum its awareness of the newer trends in pedagogy and research. In tune with the growing interest in World Literatures and Comparative Studies, the Department revised its curriculum and reoriented its research in order to replace the traditional monolithic model for the classroom. Appropriately, the Department was named Department of English and Comparative Literature.

Activities

With financial aid from the Department of Social Welfare, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, the Department offered bridge courses for the Telugu Medium students and Remedial Courses for candidates appearing for IAS, Class-I, Group-I and II Services of the Central Govt. and the State Govt. Thus the Department is involved in materials development and production for some areas of English for Specific Purposes (ESP).
